Ministry clarifies after former Finance Secretary questions 7.8% GDP growth figure
The Statistics Ministry has issued a response to former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, who alleged that the GDP for the April-June 2025 quarter was lowered by ₹6 lakh crore to ₹80 lakh crore to artificially inflate the April-June 2026 growth rate to 7.8%. The Ministry explained that the adjustment was due to shifting the base year from 2011-12 to 2022-23. Additionally, officials noted that the revision was supported by the use of more accurate data sources.
