Meet Asmita Dey, the first Indian judoka to win CWG gold
Asmita Dey has made history as the first Indian athlete to secure a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old hails from Tripura and is the daughter of a bicycle mechanic; she successfully navigated significant financial hurdles to follow her passion for the sport. Initially a track athlete competing in the 800-meter race, she transitioned to judo after training with her first coach. Her career includes podium finishes at both the Junior Asia Cup Championships and the Asian Open.
