Marathi proficiency not mandatory for auto drivers: Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has attempted to calm fears among Hindi-speaking taxi and auto drivers regarding the state's Marathi language mandate, noting that only basic conversational ability is required. This statement follows the start of a three-day strike by auto drivers in Mumbai. Fadnavis clarified, "Hindi-speaking auto drivers do not need to be experts in Marathi; they just need to know enough functional Marathi to manage."
