Large cargo vessel runs aground on Hooghly riverbank close to Kolkata
On Wednesday, a large ship registered in Singapore hit the banks of the Hooghly River in the vicinity of Kolkata. The vessel, named Nawata Bhum, measures 148 metres in length and was en route to the Netaji Subhash Dock in Kolkata. It was transporting 483 containers with a total of 10,440 metric tonnes of goods when it became stuck. There were no reports of any injuries, and footage captured the ship repeatedly sounding its horn to alert nearby vessels and residents.
