Keisuke Honda wants Japan coaching job, promises to quit if Asian Cup is lost
Former Japanese international Keisuke Honda has put his name forward to take over as the national team's head coach following Japan's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Honda remarked, "They are looking at giving the current coach, Hajime Moriyasu, a one-year extension... why not give me a shot? If we fail to win the Asian Cup, you can let me go immediately, no questions asked." Japan was knocked out of the tournament after a 1-2 defeat to Brazil in the Round of 32.
