Karnataka prohibits junk food sales near educational institutions
The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration has officially banned the promotion, advertising, free distribution, and sale of food items containing high levels of salt, sugar, and fat (HFSS) inside schools and colleges, as well as within a 50-metre zone surrounding them. This new order comes after official checks revealed that certain schools were providing students with meals packed with refined carbohydrates, which are known to trigger sudden increases in blood sugar.
