Karnataka considers compulsory HIV screening for college students
The Karnataka Health Department is weighing a proposal to make HIV testing mandatory for college-going students due to an increase in infections among the youth. As the state currently reports the third-highest HIV caseload in India, officials are developing a QR code-integrated mobile application titled ‘Know Your HIV Status.’ This initiative aims to facilitate private testing, encourage early diagnosis, ensure prompt medical care, and curb the transmission of the virus.
