The 28-year-old finished with a time of 3:42.66, shaving half a second off the previous record of 3:43.13, which had been held by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj since 1999 in Rome. Kerr previously earned a silver medal in the 1,500-meter event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
