J&K medical interns protest, say ₹12,000 stipend is insufficient for basic needs
Medical interns across Jammu and Kashmir have launched an indefinite strike to protest against 36-hour work shifts and inadequate pay. They argue that the current monthly stipend of ₹12,000 is not enough to manage their daily expenses for food and transportation. The interns pointed out that while other states provide stipends as high as ₹43,000, the amount in Jammu and Kashmir has remained unchanged since 2019. They further noted that a committee formed by the government had previously suggested an increase in the stipend.
