JAXA shares photo of snowman-shaped asteroid Torifune
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has unveiled a detailed photograph of the near-Earth asteroid Torifune, taken as the Hayabusa2 spacecraft flew past it. The space rock has a distinct shape that looks like a snowman. Equipment on the Hayabusa2 is currently gathering information about the asteroid’s surface, such as its various geological characteristics. This mission follows the spacecraft's earlier study of the asteroid Ryugu, from which it successfully brought samples back to our planet in 2020.
