Japan's Centrist Reform Alliance to shut down following election defeat

The Centrist Reform Alliance in Japan is set to disband following a poor performance in the February general election, where it secured only 49 out of 465 seats in the lower house. Party head Junya Ogawa confirmed the move on Wednesday. The alliance, which was established in January through a merger between the Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito, was unable to pose a significant threat to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s LDP. The LDP saw its seat count rise by more than 100, reaching a total of 316.
