Japan: 72-year-old man held for overstaying tourist visa by 26 years

A 72-year-old South Korean national has been taken into custody in Japan for remaining in the country for over 26 years past his 15-day tourist visa limit. According to police, the man entered Japan in September 1993 on his brother's passport with the intention of finding better-paying work. It is worth noting that overstaying a visa was officially classified as a criminal offense in February 2000.
