Injecting freshwater helps combat seawater intrusion, finds study

A collaborative study by IIT Roorkee and Kauno Technologijos Universitetas in Lithuania demonstrates that pumping freshwater into salty underground aquifers is an effective way to temporarily reverse seawater intrusion. The research team performed field tests across a five-kilometre area of the Malappuram coastline in Kerala. These findings suggest a new approach for better managing groundwater resources in coastal areas prone to salinity.
