India's space launch costs are the highest globally, four times more than the US: Report

A study from Cambridge indicates that in 2025, India spent approximately $13,302 (₹12 lakh) to send one kilogram of payload into low Earth orbit, a figure more than four times higher than the US cost of $3,225. Other nations listed include Europe at $9,897, Russia at $6,682, and China at $5,809. In response, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan stated that the research relied on "incorrect data" and noted that the cost-per-kilogram metric fails to reflect the complete economic picture of space launches.
