India's first 'Tree Orphanage' launched to guarantee sapling survival
Drawing inspiration from Rabindranath Tagore’s Santiniketan, Somnath Ghosh has established the Brikkho Foundation, which serves as the country's inaugural 'Orphanage Home for Trees.' Rather than just focusing on planting, the initiative guarantees that every sapling is cared for over a three-year period. This includes consistent monitoring, soil maintenance, protective fencing, and the use of organic fertilizers until the plants are strong enough to grow independently. To date, the project has successfully planted more than 2,000 trees, achieving a survival rate of 95%.
