On Monday, India officially began its campaign to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028-29 term. During the launch, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar pointed to the nation's contributions to peacekeeping operations and introduced the theme 'SHANTI,' which stands for 'Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust, Integrity.' India is set to compete against Tajikistan for the single available seat representing the Asia-Pacific Group.
