India has raised concerns regarding the US government's inconsistent stance on tariffs during a public hearing about the US Trade Representative's (USTR) plan to tax products associated with forced labour. Brij Mohan Mishra, a Joint Secretary within the Commerce Ministry, informed the USTR committee that the US currently grants exemptions to 1,600 items that are not grown or manufactured domestically, shielding them from forced labour investigations.
