India blocks Alipay+ and UPI integration citing data security risks
According to a Reuters report, Indian officials have put a hold on a proposal from the China-affiliated firm Alipay+ to connect with the UPI network for international payments. The move comes due to worries regarding national security and the protection of user data. Alipay+ aimed to allow Indian tourists to process payments across China, Hong Kong, and other parts of South Asia using UPI. The government pointed to political reasons for blocking the initiative, given the ongoing geopolitical friction.
