India aging at a quicker pace than its economic growth, report suggests

A recent study has cautioned that India is aging more rapidly than it is accumulating wealth. Projections indicate that by the year 2050, one out of every five Indians—totaling approximately 347 million individuals—will be aged 60 or older, with a significant majority of seven out of ten seniors residing in rural areas. Furthermore, the ratio of working-age citizens capable of supporting the elderly population is expected to drop significantly, moving from 8.4 in 2001 to 5.2 by 2026.
