IIT Kharagpur study reveals 1°C temperature rise in J&K Himalayas over two decades

Research conducted by IIT Kharagpur indicates that the Himalayan area of Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a temperature increase of nearly 1°C over the past 20 years. The study highlights a process known as Elevation-Dependent Warming, which accounts for why temperatures increase at a faster rate in mountainous regions compared to lower-lying areas. The most significant warming trends were observed in well-known tourist destinations, including Bhaderwah, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg.
