Ronnie Screwvala’s upGrad has finalized the $200 million purchase of Unacademy, a company established by Gaurav Munjal, Roman Saini, Hemesh Singh, and Sumit Jain. Saini, who is both a physician and a former IAS officer, was initially providing online guidance to UPSC candidates. In 2015, Munjal partnered with Saini and Singh to launch Unacademy, which eventually grew to offer coaching for various competitive tests like IIT-JEE and NEET, moving beyond its original focus on UPSC exams.
