HC: Entering woman's home at night to lift clothes is not attempted rape
The Jharkhand High Court has ruled that breaking into a woman's residence at night and attempting to lift her clothing does not qualify as an attempted rape. Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava altered a previous lower court verdict, stating that the incident should instead be classified as an act of outraging a woman's modesty and the application of criminal force. Previously, a sessions court had handed the defendant a four-year rigorous prison sentence on July 25, 2006.
