Grandson of Soviet spy enters French presidential race
On Sunday, French centre-left politician Raphaël Glucksmann officially announced his campaign for the presidency. As a member of the European Parliament and co-leader of the Public Square party, he is positioning himself to challenge Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the leadership of the Left, aiming to compete against National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, who is currently the favorite for the 2027 election. Glucksmann is the grandson of Rubin Glucksmann, a former Soviet spy who was involved in the Soviet military intervention during the Spanish Civil War.
