Government greenlights field trials for 1 billion plastic ₹10 and ₹20 notes
The central government has given the go-ahead to test one billion polymer banknotes in the ₹10 and ₹20 denominations. Following the positive results of initial pilot tests, the RBI had proposed the formal introduction of these plastic notes. These new banknotes will circulate alongside the current paper currency instead of acting as a complete replacement.
