Google DeepMind has made its WeatherNext AI weather forecasting model available as open-source. The company states that the tool can provide early warnings for cyclones and hurricanes by utilizing lower-resolution weather information. Previously, the model successfully forecasted a storm system hitting Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane with 80 percent confidence, five days before it arrived. According to researchers, WeatherNext is capable of producing a 15-day forecast in less than 60 seconds.
