Google DeepMind expert resigns protesting Pentagon contract
Alex Turner, an AI safety researcher at Google DeepMind, has stepped down from his position due to the company’s involvement in a Pentagon project. He expressed worries regarding the development of autonomous weapons and large-scale AI monitoring. Turner noted that he spent several months attempting to influence Google's position before ultimately deciding to exit following the partnership involving Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and OpenAI. He stated, “I couldn’t stay at Google in good conscience, so I left.”
