Gold demand in India dipped 6% in Q2 2026, yet spending rose by ₹65,600 crore

Data from the World Gold Council shows that gold purchases in India reached 131.4 tonnes during the April-June quarter of 2026. This reflects a decline of 8.3 tonnes, or approximately 6%, compared to the 139.7 tonnes bought in the same timeframe last year. Despite the lower volume, consumers paid ₹65,600 crore more due to gold prices hitting all-time highs. Overall, the total value of gold purchases surged by nearly 50%, climbing from ₹1,32,500 crore to ₹1,98,100 crore.
