Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora has secured his place in history as the second-youngest player to ever start a knockout game in the FIFA World Cup, following his inclusion in the starting lineup for the Round of 32 clash against Ecuador. At the age of 17 years and 259 days, he trails only the legendary Brazilian star Pelé, who was 17 years and 239 days old when he took the field for a 1958 quarterfinal match against Wales.
