Former Indonesian Minister and Gojek Co-Founder Nadiem Makarim Gets 10-Year Prison Term for Corruption
A court has handed down a 10-year prison sentence to Nadiem Makarim, who co-founded Gojek and previously served as an Indonesian minister. This ruling stems from a corruption investigation related to purchasing Google Chromebooks for educational institutions. Prosecutors claimed that Mr. Makarim showed favoritism towards Google, which is also an investor in Gojek. This alleged preference resulted in the state losing $125 million. Additionally, the court ordered Makarim to pay almost $45 million. Should he fail to do so, he faces an additional five years behind bars.
