A recent initial study by researchers in Nepal indicates that the flash floods occurring last week were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche originating from the Langtang–Lirung peak, rather than a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF). Analysis of satellite data revealed no signs of a GLOF. The debris started its descent at approximately 8:37 am on August 26 from an elevation of 5,200 metres, hitting the Lhende River and subsequently rushing down into the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.
