EU law permits tech companies to scan private messages without permission
The European Parliament has approved legislation enabling technology firms to proactively scan private user communications for child sexual abuse material, even without explicit user authorization. Although a majority of the members in attendance voted against the measure, it passed because the regulations require an absolute majority to block such legislation. Notably, end-to-end encrypted platforms like Signal and WhatsApp are excluded from these requirements.
