Estonia’s Defence Minister steps down following €70M ammunition deal scandal

Estonia’s Defence Minister, Hanno Pevkur, announced his resignation on Wednesday. He stated he is taking political responsibility for a controversy surrounding a €70 million ammunition purchase. The deal involved contracts with Datasel SRL, an Italy-based firm now owned by India's Neco Defence Munitions, which suffered from quality issues and significant delays. Estonia may now have to pay the €70 million out of its own funds if it fails to recoup the money through the European Peace Facility. Meanwhile, Datasel has initiated international arbitration proceedings.
