Earth could benefit from halving human population, study suggests
A study featured in the journal 'Sustainable Development' indicates that lowering the world's population from its current level of more than 8 billion to roughly 4 billion by the year 2200 might alleviate environmental strain. The researchers connected the expansion of the human population and increased consumption levels to various issues, including pollution, mining, energy demand, emissions, and the decline of biodiversity. To achieve this, they proposed encouraging voluntary reductions in fertility rates by focusing on women's empowerment, access to contraception, and education.
