A new study indicates that students who started using social media at age 11 or 12 achieved lower marks in reading and mathematics compared to peers who waited until they were older. After examining information from more than 5,000 students in Italy, researchers discovered a connection between starting social media at a younger age and reduced school success. By the time these students reached 16, those who began early were trailing their classmates by roughly half a year of academic progress.
