Delhi H1N1 cases reach 1,777; ICMR says virus is not new and vaccines work

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has clarified that the influenza A (H1N1) virus is not a recent development and has been circulating since 2009, amid reports of 1,777 cases in Delhi this year. According to the ICMR, existing vaccines are highly effective against the current strain. An official from the agency told the Hindustan Times that most patients are showing only mild symptoms, and the death rate continues to be low.
