Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, the Sri Lankan javelin athlete who secured the 2026 CWG gold medal ahead of Neeraj Chopra, previously pursued a career as a pace bowler. Before transitioning to javelin, the 23-year-old reached speeds of 134 kmph during his time playing Under-18 cricket. In the men’s javelin final held in Glasgow, Pathirage took the top spot with a throw of 89.75 metres, while Neeraj earned the silver medal with a distance of 85.83 metres.
