Soman Rana, the Indian athlete who secured the men’s F57 shot put gold medal at the 2026 CWG, suffered the loss of his right leg during a 2006 landmine explosion while on patrol near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Before his injury, the soldier was a national-level boxer. He started para-athletics while recovering and began participating in events in 2017. He earned his gold medal in Glasgow after recording a throw of 13.40 meters.
