Colombia officially acknowledges Israeli control of Golan Heights
Colombia has officially recognized Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, marking the second nation to do so following the United States. Israel seized most of the Golan Heights from Syria throughout the 1967 Six-Day War and proceeded to annex the region in 1981. The United Nations, however, does not accept this annexation and maintains that the Golan Heights remains occupied Syrian land.
