China's Tianwen-2 mission snaps first close-up of Earth's 'minimoon'

The Chinese spacecraft Tianwen-2 has successfully taken the inaugural close-up photo of Kamoʻoalewa (2016 HO3), an asteroid often referred to as Earth's 'minimoon.' The probe captured the image of the quasi-satellite from a distance of approximately 20 km, following a journey of nearly one billion km across space. Although it is called a minimoon, Kamoʻoalewa is technically a quasi-satellite that circles the Sun while maintaining a gravitational connection to our planet.
