China starts manufacturing high-end chip equipment to challenge European dominance
According to a report by The Information, China has started the production of immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems, which are essential tools for chip manufacturing that have historically been controlled by the European firm ASML. China aims to manufacture approximately five of these DUV units within this year, with a target of 20 units by 2027. These machines represent the most sophisticated lithography technology currently accessible to Chinese semiconductor manufacturers, following international export restrictions that prevented them from obtaining extreme ultraviolet (EUV) equipment.
