China creates new technique to pull 8x more uranium from seawater than US goal

Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have engineered a sponge-like substance capable of harvesting uranium from seawater at a rate exceeding the US Department of Energy's benchmark by more than eight times. Known as PhosCage, this material utilizes phosphate groups to chemically capture uranium. During testing with actual seawater, the team successfully recovered approximately 50.4mg of uranium for every gram of the adsorbent material used.
