Centre to introduce emission-control kits for aging diesel vehicles

The Union Government is set to permit the installation of a retrofit emission-control device (RECD) on older BS-III and BS-IV diesel buses and trucks. Developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi, these units are expected to be priced between ₹4,000 and ₹5,000. By installing this technology, particulate matter emissions could drop by as much as 90%, while nitrogen oxide levels may decrease by roughly 60%. This initiative aims to align older vehicles with BS-VI emission standards and will work alongside the country's existing vehicle-scrappage program.
