Centre tells Kerala HC that nicotine and tar labeling on cigarette packs is misleading

The central government has defended its stance against requiring nicotine and tar levels to be printed on cigarette packaging. In a response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Kerala High Court, the Centre argued that displaying these figures might give smokers the false impression that certain tobacco items are less harmful than others. The government further stated that graphic health warnings on packs serve as a more impactful deterrent.
