Centre suggests 5-year age limit hike for CNG and electric vehicles
The government has introduced draft amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which propose adding five years to the current age limits for vehicles running on hydrogen, battery power, or natural gas. Additionally, the proposal includes provisions for electronic national permit authorizations that would remain valid for up to five years, with an annual fee of ₹16,500. These extended timelines are intended to motivate fleet owners to shift toward more environmentally friendly vehicle options.
