Bombay HC upholds FSSAI ban on Old Monk 'rum' label in Maharashtra
The Bombay High Court has declined to pause an FSSAI directive that prohibits the sale of Old Monk rum within Maharashtra. The dispute arose after the FSSAI challenged the brand's use of labels like "7 years old blended" and "very old vatted" on bottles that consist of rum-flavored spirits rather than authentic rum. The food regulator contended that promoting a product containing only 2-5% real rum as 'pure rum' has the potential to deceive customers.
