Bombay HC imposes ₹5 lakh penalty on Maharashtra FDA for harassing shop owner
The Bombay High Court has ordered the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to pay a fine of ₹5 lakh. The penalty was issued because the agency failed to reinstate a Pune shop's licence, even though the business achieved 98% compliance during a follow-up inspection. Describing the situation as "plain and simple perversity," the court questioned the agency's actions, asking, "What is this? Torturing citizens?" The shop owner reported that the 34-day closure resulted in a financial loss of ₹8.74 lakh.
