During a visit to the US, RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat spoke about the 1996 mid-air collision that occurred over Haryana. He noted, "Both [planes] were from Arab countries...Most of the passengers were Muslims. After that collision, our Swayamsevaks reached there first & served." He further stated, "[We] arranged for funeral rites when their relatives came. We never thought at that time that these were Muslims."
