Banks raked in over ₹7,000 crore via minimum balance fees in FY26: Govt
The government told Parliament that public sector banks gathered ₹2,137.92 crore from savings and current account customers during FY26 for failing to keep the required minimum average balance. Meanwhile, private banks brought in ₹4,948.71 crore through these same fees. Within the private sector, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank were responsible for 58% of the total, pulling in ₹1,081.33 crore and ₹1,798.14 crore, respectively.
