Assam's pygmy hog project grows from 6 to 194 animals
Conservation initiatives in Assam are successfully restoring the pygmy hog population, a species previously thought to be extinct. Launched almost three decades ago using just six hogs, the breeding project has now successfully raised and released 194 of these animals. To further bolster these numbers, the environment ministry has incorporated the pygmy hog into its Species Recovery Programme, working alongside the Wildlife Institute of India.
