Ancient civilization found hidden in Amazon rainforest dating back 1,500 years

A study featured in the journal Nature suggests that a section of the Amazon rainforest could have supported a population of nearly 3 million individuals roughly 1,500 years ago. Scientists identified more than 400 ancient structures, including ceremonial grounds, roads, and earthworks, concealed under the thick jungle canopy. The team identified this society as Aquiry, a name derived from the Iñapari term for the Acre River, which is a branch of the Amazon.
